We encourage everyone to buy their tickets beforehand, but please be aware that TicketSource has been set to close the event at 5:00pm on the day of each concert. If you decide to come after that time, then you’ll need to turn up and buy a ticket at the door. There should be a few spaces left, but why risk it?

russian-c-2016-jg-700x990Especially if you are not able to get to Burntisland or Rosyth for our Fife concerts, you may be interested in their concert on the following day, which is only 25 miles from Rosyth.

Voskresenije have a long association with St Mary’s, Dalkeith, and will be singing there at 7.30pm on Saturday 19 November. The church is at the entrance to Dalkeith Country Park, not far from the Edinburgh City Bypass. More details on the poster linked to the image, or on-line at this link, and you can buy tickets on-line at this link.

If you click on the TicketSource link for the Friday concert, you’ll find that there are surprisingly few tickets allocated. This is because we’ve already sold half the seats available direct through our church connections. Two clear morals if you want to hear this fabulous choir: book soon, or book for the Thursday!

Exciting Russian musical ensemble returns to Fife

Fife prepares for a musical treat as the Voskresenije Choir of St Petersburg once again launches its Scottish tour, bringing an impressive repertoire to several venues in the Kingdom.

This impressive vocal ensemble (Voskresenije means Resurrection in Russian) was founded in 1993 by its director and conductor, Jurij Maruk. The repertoire of its ten professional female and male vocalists includes Russian sacred music as well as folk music. Guest performances in Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, the UK, France and Italy have met with great success, and the choir has recorded several CDs which include some arrangements of Burns songs by John McIntosh.

Their conductor, Jurij Maruk, was born in 1961 in Barnaul, West Siberia. From 1987 to 1989, he worked at the Mariinsky Theatre (opera and ballet) in St Petersburg as a choir singer. Here he had his initial experience as a conductor of sacred music and artistic leader of the Mariinsky Theatre. Between 1990 and 1992, Maruk worked as the choirmaster of the St Petersburg Radio and Television Choir.

The choir tour the UK every year, and their tour of Scotland starts at the beginning of November in Renfrew and then comes by way of Argyll, Edinburgh and Aberdeen to Fife, where St Serf’s Scottish Episcopal Church Burntisland will host a concert on Thursday 17 November and St Margaret’s Rosyth on Friday 18 November. Performances have been described in recent reviews as “remarkable”, “exciting” and “thrilling”. The two Fife concerts provide an unrivalled opportunity to experience the voice of the choir’s basso profundo within the setting of a unique evening of musical enjoyment.
